More of Marti's work

Originally from the Midwest, Marti studied Commercial Art at Northeast Missouri State. Her emphasis is on color and her interpretation of nature in color. She has painted and been involved in the arts all her life and through the years between college and raising a family, she has continued her interests by attending workshops, seminars and art classes. Leaving the "angst and "agony" of the art world in the 60's and 70's she made a decision, early on, to paint the beauty that surrounds our every day life. In the early 90's she began showing her work in area competitions and won numerous awards and taken many first place rankings while competing in the "Professional" categories. Her work has been chosen three times to be featured in the national publication "Art Business News" in their "Editions" section and in 2005 her work was chosen to be one of only 100 artists from around the world featured in the book, "New Art International 2004-2005" which is available in bookstores nationwide. Gallery representation is "Courpralux" gallery in Dallas, Texas, "South Street Gallery" in Easton, Maryland and "Bowie Framing and Art" in Fort Worth, Texas. Her bio information is also listed with France's prestigious site, "artistbiography.com". Her most recent exhibition has been inclusion in artkudos.com online art show. and in the "International Miniature Art Show" held in Millburn, NJ. She is a member of OPA (Oil Painters of America), ASOPA (American Society of Portrait Artists) and locally, WCAA (Wise County Art Association) and WAA (Weatherford Art Association). Her work can be further viewed at http://www.artbymarti.com

Growing up in an atmosphere of a family suppressing emotions, the rich, varied artwork in my home as a child became the way I was able to get in touch with a range of emotions. Visual representation "spoke" to me and reached that Higher part of me. Spiritually, at the age of 12, when a Rousseau painting at the Modern Museum of Art in New York flooded me with courage, I knew that I wanted to be able to reach other people in the same way.

I've been involved in some sort of artwork ever since. I love the rush of allowing my Higher Self/God/the Universe (whatever you want to call it) work through me. Being an artist is surrendering to the Unknown, and sometimes that is scary, but also thrilling.

I've won numerous awards in juried shows, part of many art collections, am a signature member of the N.M. Watercolor Society, and am represented by several galleries.
