Yoram East
Winnipeg artist Yoram East was born in Jerusalem where he entered the Bezalel Art School as a young teenager. Later, as a more mature artist, he continued his studies in Wiessbaden, Germany. Over the years he worked with various forms of visual and plastic art. His career as a journalist and writer took him to many corners of the world, from the Middle East and the Mediterranean to Africa, the Far East, Europe, and many parts of North America. In Canada he worked and lived on a remote Ojibwa Indian Reserve, and many of his paintings are influenced by his experience with North American natives. Some of his paintings are inspired by Middle Eastern history, as well as ancient mythologies, and both Old and New Testament themes. Yoram paints on canvas, wood, household articles, musical instruments, wooden toys, and much more. Recently Yoram began to create grotesque bone figurines some which seem like medieval gargoyles. The vibrant colours in some of Yoram's paintings express his sensitivity to the bright and strong colours and soft shades of the Mediterranean whereas others are inspired by the cooler shades of North America.
