Into the Fog

20 x 24, pastel on board

Jean Hirons

Web Site    United States

Pastel is my medium of choice and the only medium in which I work. Pastel Box I love the immediacy of using my hands rather than a brush, of having colors laid out before me ready to use, and the fact that there are so many kinds of pastels, surfaces, and techniques with which to work. I use many of them! My philosophy is that the finished painting is what is most important, not the technique used to accomplish it. I begin my studio paintings by examining what it is I want to say, following up with studies of composition, values, and color, to determine the most effective surface and technique in which to say it.

I bring this philosophy to my teaching and presentations on pastel. I love teaching and sharing my experience with the medium.

I paint landscapes because it is to the land I most respond. My paintings are based on strong compositions, limited color, and diverse forms; but it is my love of the subject that really shapes them. When I paint pure landscape those without man-made structuresI focus on the rhythms of shadows and the emotional content of light. When I include buildings or other man-made objects, I am interested in the interplay of hard lines and shadows with natural forms. In all of my paintings, I hope to balance detail with mystery, harmony with excitement, serenity with sheer joy!

Jayne M. Morgan

George Bernard Shaw said,"You use a mirror of glass to see yourself, you use works of art to see your soul."
Jayane is a native of Coral Gables, Florida. Art became a part of her life at a young age, due to her mother's influence and inspiration. She began her formal education at Miami Dade College in art and design. Unable to fulfill a dream to continue at Fashion Institude of Techology in New York, she put aside her art studies but continued to paint.
When she relocated to Rainbow Springs, Florida, art became her reality. Jayne began a transition from oil to watercolor at Florida Community College, after which she studied for twelve years under noted artist Eloise Gardiner Giles.

"Watercolor is an exciting experience, because of the fluidity, translucency and freshness. I am continually inspired by the challenges inherent in this mediim. The subjects I return to most often are the Florida landscape , wildlife, and floral. Also, I enjoy the diversion to abstract which gives me greater freedom of expression and fun." For the past several years, she has established herself as a recognized watercolorist in North Central Florida. Her works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions including, but not limited to Homosassa State Park, Keyhole Gallery, Cedar Key; The Shoppe Art Gallery, Crystal River; Mclean Folk Art Festival, Eastern Shores Art Gallery, Fairhope, Alabama, Nuance Gallery, Tampa, Florida. She also participated in the IHMRS New York, NY and Art Expo 2007, New York, NY. She has been a member of Citrus Watercolor Socity, Eastern Shores Art Association, Fairhope, Alabama. She is a member of Art Faces Art Places, Modern Day Masters, Art-Exchange and has her own personal web site Jayne Morgan Art.  Jayne's awards include Best of Show and First Place. Her works are in private collections in the United States, France and Wales.
